Nurse Education in Practice will be publishing a Special Issue in 2012 devoted to Midwifery Education in Practice.
Midwifery education is fundamental to underpin the changes and developments taking place internationally. The present and future midwifery workforce requires knowledge and skills to deliver quality care, ensuring in the process that the cultural, social and political context of maternity services is taken into account.
The education of midwives varies globally as do the education programs designed to prepare them for their role (Thomson et al 2011). Midwifery education is the driver behind providing a skilled midwifery workforce. As a result of discussion with midwifery colleagues internationally we wish to publish a Special issue of this journal devoted to Midwifery Education in its broadest context.
This Special Issue will incorporate the principles of the aims and scope of Nurse Education in Practice and provide a forum dedicated to the global dissemination of research, innovation and knowledge."
